What's the difference between a junkyard, a salvage yard and a u-pull-it?

Junkyard and salvage yard mean the same thing to most people: a lot of wrecked or end-of-life vehicles sold for parts. At a full-service yard staff pull the part for you; at a self-serve u-pull-it yard you bring tools and pull it yourself for less. A scrap yard buys metal by weight for recycling.
